EDUKEX exhibition opens
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The British Council’s annual Education UK Exhibition (EDUKEX) gives students and individuals in Kuwait a chance to meet representatives of 41 universities and colleges in the United Kingdom, who provide adequate information on the available educational opportunities and academic degree programs, British Council Director Graham McCulloch told the Arab Times during the opening of the exhibition Wednesday. Under the slogan ‘Reaching New Heights’, the exhibition will continue until Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Farwaniya. The two-day exhibition was formally opened by Minister of Education and Higher Education Nuriya Al-Subaih, British Ambassador to Kuwait Michael Aron, and Kuwaiti Cultural Attaché to the UK Dr Fayiz Al Dhafeeri.

Emphasizing that EDUKEX is the first step towards a brighter future, McCulloch said “this exhibition presents a wide variety of universities that has never been presented before in Kuwait with an objective to open wider doors, ideas and innovation for everyone. If you’re wondering what grades you’ll need, what kind of courses are offered, or the type of career you can embark upon with a UK qualification, then EDUKEX is your chance to find out all these information and more. You will also be able to speak to representatives from the UK Border Agency on how to obtain a student visa.” Meanwhile, International Recruitment Officer Firas Ibrahim said interested individuals can go through the application process and entry requirements in any of the available universities. “Representatives of these universities will discuss qualifications, scholarships, employment opportunities while studying, healthcare cost, tuition fees, living expenses and choosing the right courses,” he stated.

Moreover, one of the UK university representatives stressed the importance of introducing a wide variety of British universities in Kuwait and the Gulf, considering the lack of British universities in the region compared to American universities. “The introduction of British education to Kuwait has a lot of potential especially with the flexible Kuwaiti government, which has opened its doors for us to introduce and promote our colleges and universities. Our mission right now is to open the British University of Kuwait, which is underway and we are only waiting for the Amiri decree in this regard,” revealed the representative, adding their next stop will be in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition consisted of five supporting organizations including the British Council, Kuwait Association of British Alumni (KABA), Government Manpower & Restructuring Program (GMRP), UK Border Agency (UKBA) and National Union of Kuwaiti Students (NUKS). Participants include Cambridge Regional College, David Game College, EF Britain College, Bangor University, Heriot-Watt University, Leeds Metropolitan University, London South Bank University, Newcastle University, The University of Liverpool, The University of Manchester, University of Aberdeen Scotland, University of Glasgow and University of Sussex. - Arab Times
