| Kuwait said to have been criticised by ILO over violation of expat rights |
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: Kuwait has been criticized by International Labor Organization (ILO) for violation of human rights against expatriates, reports Al-Qabas daily. Cleopatra Dombia sent the report to Kuwait’s Social Affairs and Labor Ministry, along with another report from Experts Committee at ILO about child labor, extended working hours and bonded labor in Kuwait. ILO raised questions about these pitfalls in human rights in Kuwait. Dombia also complained about the delay from Kuwait’s side to address many issues mentioned in the labor-security agreement.
Dombia has requested Kuwait to implement the articles of the agreement, especially article No 100, related to equality in salaries. Meanwhile, the ministry of social affairs said Kuwait is keen on implementing these international laws and has expressed willingness to sit down for talks with international organizations to discuss these issues. The ministry does not allow children below 18 to work, and follows up cases of alleged child labor to ensure children get due education, the ministry added. - Arab Times
