| Ministries set to start drive against ‘illegals’ |
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31: The Inspection Depart-ment of the Labor Sector at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, in coordination with the Ministries of Commerce and Interior, will launch an extensive campaign against illegal expatriates from Sunday, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources. Disclosing there are 50,000 illegal expatriates of different nationalities in Kuwait, sources said these expatriates can correct their status or transfer their residence permits to another sponsor until April 15. Sources affirmed the Labor Depart-ments in various governorates are now ready to accept applications from illegal expatriates to correct their status regardless of the period of violation.
Sources explained the department will close the files of sponsors found violating the law, especially those with illusory companies, and put them under file number 72. Genuine companies under file number 72 can request the reopening of their files at the Inspection Department provided they take the necessary measures to correct their violations. On the other hand, the department will order the deportation of workers under the sponsorship of illusory companies and the Ministry of Commerce will revoke their licenses immediately, sources added. - Arab Times
