| Water quantity, quality sees downturn in GCC countries |
KUWAIT, Feb 1, (KUNA): Gulf and Japanese rese-archers and specialists in the field of water resources are scheduled to hold a seminar entitled “Water resources in the GCC countries and environmental challenges”, on Monday in Kuwait. Head of the preparatory committee for the seminar, Dr Mohammad Al-Rashid said during a press conference on Sunday, in cooperation with the Executive Manager of the Japanese Cooperation Center of Petroleum, that the three-day seminar coincides with the great challenges faced by GCC regarding facing water resources. He added water resources in the Gulf are facing many challenges like decrease in quantity, and quality degradation.
The seminar will include the participation of specialists and researchers from the Gulf, in addition to Japanese scientists, to discuss ways to manage water resources and protect them from pollution. He clarified that the seminar will also include 19 scientific papers presented by the researchers, concentrating on four factors; the use of renewable energy, water purification, managing water resources, and the production of oil and gas and the protection of the environment. On the other hand, the Japanese specialists said that throughout its history, 18,134 participants joined training courses in 53 countries, organized by the center. He added, the center provided the participants with developed technology and experience, and sent 4,775 experts to 52 oil-producing countries, where they executed 83 projects in 13 countries. He also praised strong relations between the two sides in the field of cooperative projects launched in 1993.
