| Minister presents to Cabinet report on situation of maids |
KUWAIT, Feb 2, (KUNA): The Kuwait Cabinet held its weekly session at Al-Seif Palace on Monday under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The meeting probed several key domestic and regional issues,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji Bukhadour told reporters following the meeting. “Commencing the meeting the prime minister briefed the Cabinet members on the invitation sent to HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by Jordanian King Abdullah II to attend the fifth meeting of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East, the region’s foremost gathering of government, business and civil society leaders which will take place at the Dead Sea, Jordan on May 15-17, 2009,” Bukhadour said.
The Cabinet members were briefed on the message sent to the Amir by Laotian President Lt.-Gen. Choummali Saignason who hailed the close ties between Kuwait and Laos and the results of the recent official visit to Laos by the prime minister. They were also briefed on two messages sent to the Amir by Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. “The two messages deal with prospects of strengthening the bilateral ties between the state of Kuwait on one hand and Republic of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Cambodia on the other,” Bukhadour disclosed.
Minister of Interior Staff Lt-Gen Sheikh Jaber Khalid Al-Sabah presented to the Cabinet a detailed report on the situation of the expatriate housemaids in Kuwait. The report elaborates on the controls governing the recruitment and employment of foreign housemaids as well as the executive statutes of the law on the residency of foreign private servants in the country. The Cabinet members were briefed on the rules on licenses for housemaid employment offices including Article one of Act 40 for 1992. “They appreciated the efforts being made by the Ministry of Interior to regulate the importation and employment of foreign housemaids in line with human rights,” Bukhadour pointed out. The Cabinet also mulled the agenda of the current session of parliament including the questions and interpellations raised by some MPs, Bukhadour revealed.
The Cabinet discussed the latest developments of the regional and international political issues including the provincial council elections in neighborly Iraq. It hailed the elections as another step forward in the Iraqi democratic process which will help stabilize the situation in the Arab country. The Cabinet members voiced confidence that the results of the polls would solidify the Iraqi national unity, enhance the security and stability nationwide, and enable Iraq to resume its due role on the Arab and international arenas, Bukhadour added. - Arab Times
