| India seeks land for school being run in rented building |
NEW DELHI, Feb 4, (KUNA): India’s Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahmad Wednesday sought optimum land for a school in Kuwait which is currently being run in a rented building. The request was made by Ahmad during his meeting with a visiting three-member Kuwaiti delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji. The five-day visit of the Kuwaiti delegation began Tuesday. According to Ahmad, there are thousands of Indian pupils studying in different Indian schools in Kuwait. The schools are sponsored by a Kuwaiti national.
Speaking exclusively to KUNA, Ahmad said: “I mentioned about the request of the Indian community to have some land for the school building which has been asked by the land owner to vacate. In the event of vacating that building, more than 12,000 students will be affected.” The Indian minister added that Al-Hajji has agreed that land “will be given for construction of a new school building,” but there is some difficulty because some Municipality rules have been changed in Kuwait. He cited some procedural difficulties for the delay in providing the required land.
Many Indian schools are running in Kuwait, sponsored by a Kuwaiti national, but the difficulty is that some land is to be provided by the Kuwaiti government, the Indian minister stated and added: “That school is being run by a committee sponsored by a Kuwaiti gentleman. If land will be given, new building will be constructed. They have agreed to our demand.” Al-Hajji is accompanied by Kuwaiti UnderSecretary of Civil Services Mohammad Al-Roumi and Assistant UnderSecretary in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Abdullah Al-Hajeri.
