India seeks land for school being run in rented building
NEW DELHI, Feb 4, (KUNA): India’s Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahmad Wednesday sought optimum land for a school in Kuwait which is currently being run in a rented building. The request was made by Ahmad during his meeting with a visiting three-member Kuwaiti delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji. The five-day visit of the Kuwaiti delegation began Tuesday. According to Ahmad, there are thousands of Indian pupils studying in different Indian schools in Kuwait. The schools are sponsored by a Kuwaiti national.

Speaking exclusively to KUNA, Ahmad said: “I mentioned about the request of the Indian community to have some land for the school building which has been asked by the land owner to vacate. In the event of vacating that building, more than 12,000 students will be affected.” The Indian minister added that Al-Hajji has agreed that land “will be given for construction of a new school building,” but there is some difficulty because some Municipality rules have been changed in Kuwait. He cited some procedural difficulties for the delay in providing the required land.

Many Indian schools are running in Kuwait, sponsored by a Kuwaiti national, but the difficulty is that some land is to be provided by the Kuwaiti government, the Indian minister stated and added: “That school is being run by a committee sponsored by a Kuwaiti gentleman. If land will be given, new building will be constructed. They have agreed to our demand.” Al-Hajji is accompanied by Kuwaiti UnderSecretary of Civil Services Mohammad Al-Roumi and Assistant UnderSecretary in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Abdullah Al-Hajeri.

Meanwhile, the three-member Kuwaiti delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister for cabinet Affairs Faisal Al-Hajji visiting India began its official visit Wednesday morning by meeting India’s Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances Prithviraj Chauhan. Both sides shared the system of civil services prevalent in their respective countries and gained from each others experiences. The Kuwaiti delegation hailed the Indian civil services system and expressed intention to cooperate with India especially in terms of Information Technology used in furthering the process and disseminating information up to the public.

In the meantime, the the Kuwaiti delegation condemned on Wednesday the November 26, 2008, Mumbai terror attacks which claimed lives of as many as 197 innocent people. The Kuwaiti delegation, the first to visit India following the Mumbai attacks, conveyed the condolences to India’s Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahmad at the latter’s office in New Delhi. Speaking to KUNA following the hour-long meeting, Ahmed said: “the Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister expressed profound sympathy towards India and its people for what happened in Mumbai.” He condemned this act of violence and vandalism, and said that such an act was “against the humanity.” - Arab Times
